Stevenage FC writer Owen Rodbard: Three things we learned from Boro’s 3-0 win against Sutton
Three things we learned from Boro's 3-0 win against Sutton
1) There is no ceiling for this squad
Its weird to think that Boro are coasting to these victories without really getting out of first gear. In no way was this an extremely impressive performance, but winning that spectacularly should be a scary thought for the rest of League 2.
If Boro can find their rhythm and start performing to their best ability, then promotion could be a serious thought in the near future.
2) Solid defensive displays are the key
Just 12 goals conceded in 16 games, alongside 4 clean sheets have propelled Boro to the top of the table.
The defensive solidity provided by the backline of Piergianni, Sweeney and Vancooten has been outstanding. It's been a long time since I've felt confident in our defensive abilities, probably not since the Roberts and Ashton days.
Evans has instilled a real discipline into the side which gives us a real chance of getting a result in every game we play.
3) We're outperforming previous expectations
At the beginning of the season who predicted such a positive start after our recent few seasons?
Confidence is flying at the moment, and despite two loses, the team is on top form. When they get into top gear it could be a scary thought for whoever we're facing. In January with a few more strong signings we could be seriously pushing for promotion.
