Storm Francis brings 'wild' weather to Hitchin as Met Office issues warning

Hitchin is feeling the effects of Storm Francis with weather warnings issued for north Herts.

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast all day - with wind gusts of more than 40mph predicted.

The Met Office says 'wild weather' brought on by Storm Francis will bring strong winds leading to possible disruption to travel and power supplies along with potential damage to trees.

The nation's weather agency warned of injuries from flying debris and damage to buildings including the dislodging of roof tiles.

People are being warned of power cuts, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

Chief meteorologist Andy Page said: "The UK is in for another unseasonably wet and windy spell with Storm Francis arriving.

"There will be strong winds and heavy rain."
