Stevenage FC have reacted to the news that the government have moved the whole of Hertfordshire into Tier 3.

In light of Health Secretary Matt Hancock moving the whole of the county into the tightest measures, the club have confirmed that fans will be barred from attending once again.

Unlike football clubs in the first two tiers, spectators are not allowed to watch sport in Tier 3.

The move comes as a blow to loyal supporters after many had only just returned, with around 800 attending the goalless draw with Southend in League Two earlier this month.

However, the move to the toughest measures across all of Herts including Stevenage means that fans will once again be barred from the Lamex.

The Broadhall Way outfit said in a statement released on Thursday afternoon: "Following the government's announcement that Hertfordshire will be moved to Tier 3, Stevenage's home game against Cambridge United on December 29 will now be played behind closed doors.

"A review of the tiers will be made on December 30 and should Hertfordshire be moved back into Tier 2, supporters may be allowed to return in time for the home match vs Scunthorpe United on Saturday, January 2 and the Emirates FA Cup match vs Swansea City on Saturday, January 9.

"However, until further notice, all Stevenage FC home games will be played behind closed doors.

"The club would like to wish its supporters the best of health over the coming weeks and encourages everybody in the local community to stay safe and vigilant with regards to Covid."
