Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin was filled with music, laughter, and the comforting aroma of freshly baked cupcakes as residents, families, and staff came together for a special Dementia UK Time for a Cuppa charity morning. The event brought the whole home to life, celebrating community spirit while raising awareness and support for families affected by dementia.

The morning's entertainment was led by talented local singer Chloe Jo, whose warm vocals and uplifting setlist had residents smiling, singing along, and tapping their feet. Her performance created a joyful atmosphere that resonated throughout the home — from the main lounges to the specialist dementia environment, Sycamore, which supports 18 residents living with dementia.

Adding a sweet touch to the occasion, Milford Lodge's Activity Coordinator Devina Kutowaroo crafted a beautiful selection of themed cupcakes. Decorated with care and creativity, the treats became a talking point among residents and visitors, perfectly complementing the tea, conversation, and music.

Milford Lodge — a 60‑bed residential care home known for its warm, person‑centred approach — has even more to celebrate this year. Both the Engagement Team and the Sycamore Team have been named finalists at the prestigious Dementia in Care Awards, taking place on 24th June at the Hilton Bankside, London. The recognition reflects the dedication, compassion, and innovation shown by staff in creating meaningful experiences for residents every day.

Engagement Lead Eliana Ferraris expressed pride in how the charity morning brought everyone together.

"Events like this remind us how powerful connection can be. Music , conversation & a simple cup of tea can make such a difference -especially for those residents living with a dementia"

The funds raised during the Time for a Cuppa event will support Dementia UK's specialist Admiral Nurse services, helping families across the country receive expert guidance and emotional support.

As the last notes of Chloe Jo's performance faded and the final cupcakes were enjoyed, the feeling across Milford Lodge was clear: community, compassion, and creativity remain at the heart of everything they do.
