Travelling from Hitchin into London this weekend? Will you be affected by the disruption at King's Cross?

Rail passengers travelling via London King's Cross are being urged to check their journeys before 72 hours of wide scale disruption at one of the busiest station's in the country.

The King's Cross project is a critical part of the £1.2billion East Coast Upgrade and Network Rail, Great Northern and Thameslink have asked passengers to rethink their route when King's Cross station closes from lunchtime today (Friday, June 4) until the early hours of Monday (June 7).

The reason behind the closure is so engineering teams can finish the multi-million pound project to transform the track layout at King's Cross, making it more practical for trains.

Network Rail has already replaced track, overhead lines and signalling as well as simplified the tracks on the approach to the station while additonally reopening a disused tunnel after nearly years to increase capacity from four to six tracks.

Summary:

No trains to or from London King's Cross on the afternoon of Friday, June 4, and all day on Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6.

The work will allow more trains to enter and exit the station – reducing congestion and bringing more reliable journeys for passengers.

Full service resumes again on Monday (June 7) but in the meantime if you're travelling this weekend please do plan your journey in advance.
