HITCHIN: The Ukraine flag flies proudly in Market Place showing solidarity with the brave fight against totalitarianism.

The community of Hitchin has rallied to support the people of Ukraine after Russian tanks invaded the country last week.

There have been collections organised to send much-needed supplies to women and children fleeing to safety (read about how you can help here).

While a big-hearted pub Hitchin boss and his generous punters have already raised more than £500 to support Ukraine (read about the Orange Tree's inspirational efforts here)

Now, the heart of Hitchin is displaying support by hoisting Ukraine's flag up the Keith Hoskins Flagpole in market square.

The decision came from Hitchin BID who said: "We're flying the flag on the Market Place in solidarity with Ukraine. Lots of organisations are collecting items and charity donations.

"Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine and all those fighting to defend their country."
