Police in Hertfordshire are warning people to be aware of Covid vaccine scams as the jab is rolled out.

Scammers are contacting elderly people claiming they can arrange Covid vaccines for a fee.

Thousands of people across the UK including Hitchin and north Herts have already received the vaccine, since it was released last week, including the first person to get the jab at the Lister Hospital.

However, the facts are that you simply can't pay to get your name on a list to get the coronavirus vaccine - so don't fall for scammers' promises about getting early access.

No one from a vaccine distribution site, health care payer, or private insurance company will call you asking for your NI number, or your credit card, or bank account information, to sign you up to get the vaccine.

The NHS is the only organisation that has access to the vaccine and will never ask for payment.

A police spokesman told Nub News: "If you are contacted, please do not engage with the fraudsters.

"The NHS is currently only contacting eligible people by phone.

"If you are asked for money it is not a genuine call."

Report fraud to 0300 123 2040 or online
