Last night (4th December) saw North Hertfordshire District Council vote 25 to 19 in favour of a no-confidence motion in the leadership of Cllr Daniel Allen.
However, in the debate that proceeded the vote Cllr Tamsin Thomas, The Cabinet Member for Enterprise, warned that her officials had informed her that the impact of replacing the leader could "have a very real impact" on the council's work.
Cllr Thomas warned that when it came to the future of Churchgate - "major capital projects could be badly impacted, worst case terminally".
Cllr Thomas also warned of a negative impact of the vote to the Charnwood House and Riverside Walk schemes.
North Herts Council have been approached for more detail as to what this impact will be now that Cllr Allen will be replaced.
Immediately after the vote Cllr Allen wrote on Hitchin Nub News that residents should "be assured that North Herts District Council remains stable, capable, and focused on serving you. Leadership may change, but the work of the council does not stop. Your services will continue, your support will continue, and the progress we've made will continue."
Meanwhile Cllr Ruth Brown, the Lib Dem Group Leader in North Herts said: "This step was taken to make it clear that the view of the Council, which was democratically elected to represent the residents, must not be ignored. The choices made by the Labour leader will be detrimental to local residents, and do not seem to have been made in their best interests. We made the issues with Labours position clear at the previous Council meeting but the Labour leader has refused to listen to these arguments, and has ignored the Council which he leads."
