Hitchin has been ranked the 184th busiest railway station in Great Britain, according to newly released annual statistics from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).
The data, covering the period April 2024 to March 2025, shows Hitchin's position among 2,589 stations served by mainline rail services across the country.
This year's total includes six newly opened stations, reflecting continued investment in the national rail network.
London St Pancreas is the main origin or destination station for Hitchin.
Nationally, rail usage continues to climb. The ORR reported 1,730 million passenger journeys in 2024/25 — a 7% increase on the 1,610 million journeys recorded the previous year. The rise marks another step in the rail industry's recovery, with more people returning to regular train travel for commuting, leisure and tourism.
There were one million, eighty-five thousand, one hundred and sixty entry and exits at Hitchin station during the reporting period.
