Welcome onboard at Nub News to Simon Michell, owner of The Car Agents.

Hitchin Nub News is delighted to announce another outstanding local business as our latest sponsor.

The Car Agents (TCA) is based in the heart of our community and operates as a sports, prestige and classic car sales and service centre in Hitchin – but there's so much more.

Simon Michell is the owner behind TCA - also offers a raft of other fun, interesting and exciting projects at the site on Queen Street.

Passionate Simon explains in his own words: "We specialise in sports, prestige, classic cars, and now motorcycles, and we also opened a prestige bike shop in 2022".

"Our aim was for three things when I started the business. "Firstly, everything we want to do has got to be fun, interesting and exciting.

"Secondly, we want to be part of our community. We don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere, or working from home - we want to be in the community that we're part of.

"And thirdly, everything we do has to have integrity, it's a partnership between us and whoever we're dealing with."

Simon underlines that TCA showcase that ethos whether you're buying a wiper blade or buying a £100,000 car – "it's the same level of service," he says, adding: "We try and give continuity behind everything we do."

Because, ultimately, Simon says with feeling: "We will endeavour do what we say we're going to do, which is quite rare in my experience."

Simon explains that he started the business at his kitchen table in 2010, offering a service to help people needing a 'car solution'. In reality, that meant helping customers if they needed to sell a car, if they needed to buy a car, or even simply having their vehicle serviced.

"So, I became an agent, hence the original name The Car Agents."

As Simon recounts, it was very much: "'give me your prized car, I'll manage the sale and I'll charge you once we've sold it at an agreed upfront fee.' "If we don't sell it doesn't cost you anything."

"This service grew with just myself and my son, to a shop in Hitchin town centre, a shop in Harpenden and then having to move to bigger premises, where we are now in Queen Street," Simon explains.

"Then we started adding more facilities, finance and a service centre - with servicing, tyres and MOTs and anything else to do with cars."

Delighted customers then started asking us about motorcycles. "Can you sell my motorcycle for me' they asked, says Simon, we've now added a motorcycle selling service and coming soon servicing and MOT's.

One of Simon's passions is bicycles, as it is for many of his customers. "So, we thought we'd add that into the business too," says the dynamic business owner.

"Now we can offer our five star level of service, whether it's for a bicycle, car & motorcycle, and we've tried to make it easy, so you can now part exchange your motorbike against a bicycle, or your motorbike against a car - all surrounded by the services needed to enjoy them."

Simon underlines the point: "We all want peace of mind when we buy something and if it goes wrong, we want to know it's going be dealt with quickly and efficiently?

"That's when you find out what service really means - and we endeavour to achieve five stars from you every time.

"And that's basically it. It's as simple as that."

So what's the future for TCA?

"We're in it now, we are evolving and becoming a lifestyle hub, together with our membership called Club TCA."

"This is all driven by what we love doing when we when we're not working" says Simon.

"To me lifestyle means the things we choose to do when we have free time - whether it be driving our dream car, riding our exhilarating eBike, going out, eating, drinking, having fun, socialising with our friends and family, or challenging ourselves in terms of active sports and pastimes."

"So we're bringing all those things into our business now."

Simon explains that TCA is 18 months into a five-year plan. "Over the next three years, we will become a lifestyle hub, where you can buy fun, interesting and exciting products from us - but also enjoy other experiences as well.

"Just launched is our subscription Membership Club, which will not only give benefits and discounts from us and our partners, but will also have a calendar of events, using our facility for music, food and challenge events, and for quite simply getting together and giving people reasons to get out and do stuff."

Simon's exciting TCA now joins Liz Meineck Luxury Holidays and Honeymoons, Lemonade HR, Lyndhurst Financial Management, Crossroad Care, Molly Malone's public house, and British Schools Museum, as Hitchin Nub News sponsors - with more to come very soon.

Hitchin Nub News is a daily news service just for our town and surrounding areas - we can tell you what's happening right on your doorstep. Not only that, we also champion local businesses and want to see the community thrive - and just like Simon's community-based TCA, we're growing all the time.

Nub News welcomes The Car Agents as our latest sponsor

Nub News supremo Karl Hancock has also hailed the deal between Nub News and The Car Agents.

Mr Hancock, CEO of Nub News, said: "We are delighted to be partnering with a local business such as Simon's Michell's TCA.

"Their values are echoed throughout Nub News, and we are so pleased to be working with Simon and his car, bike and cycle agents businesses."

Having brilliant companies on board - such as Simon's - as another Hitchin Nub News sponsor is a landmark moment as Nub News continues to revolutionise news reporting and bring back local coverage to local communities.

Mr Hancock added, saying: "Simon and his company TCA are an ideal partner to work with because, like Nub News, the local community is at the heart of what they do.

"We want to give the community a voice, and our sponsors and across the country - including Simon and TCA - play a crucial part in helping us to do that.

"This sponsorship enables us to provide our service without any of the annoying Google Ads, pop-up surveys and clickbait you find on so many other websites owned by bigger companies."
