Officers in North Herts are appealing for information after a large amount of criminal damage has been caused on and around the Westmill estate in Hitchin.

Over the past three weeks a large number of reports of damage have been received, which include vehicles being mindlessly damaged – with either wing mirrors being kicked off or wipers being ripped off.

Low walls to some properties have also been kicked down, causing expensive damage.

Detective Inspector Ben Smith said: "We believe those responsible are probably living locally and may be known in the community. We are urging anyone with any information to pass it on. If you don't want to contact officers directly, you can remain completely anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers.

"We are increasing our patrols in this area and are also asking anyone who has CCTV or a ring doorbell and who has not already spoken to us, to check to see if they have captured any suspicious activity.

"If you see anyone causing any damage of this nature, please report it immediately."

To remain anonymous contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org

You can also report information online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101.
