🎃 Friday Evening

Halloween Spooktacular – Town Centre Trick-or-Treat & Lantern Parade

  • When: Friday 31 October, 5.30pm-8pm
  • Where: Starts outside the Market Place, Hitchin
  • What: Dress up in your spookiest (or silliest) costume and join the fun of a lantern parade, sweets, treats and spooky surprises for all ages. Families are especially encouraged to arrive early.
  • Tip: Bring a small torch or glow-stick, wear weather-sensible shoes (it may be chilly) and perhaps plan to stay for a hot drink in the town afterwards.

👻 Saturday Afternoon & Evening

Hitchin Museum & Art Gallery – Ghost Stories of Hitchin Talk

  • When: Saturday 1 November, 3 pm
  • Where: Hitchin Museum & Art Gallery, Brand Street, SG5 1BA
  • What: Learn about the spookier side of Hitchin's history in a family-friendly talk and Q&A session. Expect local lore, ghost sightings and historical twists.
  • Tip: Pre-book if you can (space may be limited) and arrive 10 minutes early for a drink in the café beforehand.

Autumn Makers Market – St Mary's Churchyard

  • When: Saturday 1 November, 10am-4pm
  • Where: St Mary's Churchyard, Hitchin
  • What: Browse stalls of local crafts, seasonal goodies, hot drinks and harvest-themed décor. A relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon in town.
  • Tip: Bring a tote bag for your finds and perhaps a cash-alternative card (some smaller stalls may have limited card access).

🌿 Sunday Morning

Hitchin Green & Open Spaces Walk – Bonfire Season Edition

  • When: Sunday 2 November, 10.30am
  • Where: Meet at the Pavilion, Priory Memorial Gardens, SG5 1XR
  • What: A gentle guided walk through Hitchin's green spaces, with some discussion of local ecology and autumn changes ahead of the bonfire season. Ideal for all ages.
  • Tip: Wear layers (it may be brisk), bring a reusable water bottle and maybe include a hot drink stop in town afterwards.

🎭 Tuesday Evening

Open-Mic Comedy Night – The Cellar Bar

  • When: Tuesday 4 November, doors 7pm, show starts 7.30pm
  • Where: The Cellar Bar, Hitchin
  • What: A fun evening of local talent, stand-up and improv in a relaxed pub setting. Entry free, pay bar.
  • Tip: Arrive early if you'd like a seat, and consider staying in afterwards for the pub quiz (starts at 9pm).

🔍 Wednesday All-Day

Hitchin Library – "Reading Through the Seasons" Exhibition

  • When: Wednesday 5 November (all day)
  • Where: Hitchin Library, Churchyard, SG5 1ZX
  • What: A themed exhibition of books, art and community contributions exploring the changing seasons, with special children's storytelling sessions at 11 am and 2 pm.
  • Tip: Drop in at any time; if attending the storytelling, arrive 5-10 minutes early to secure a spot.
