Wilko Hitchin: A sad end as Bancroft store closure date confirmed - heartbroken staff tell Nub News 'We're always the last to know'
The closure date for the Wilko store in Hitchin town centre has been confirmed.
Hitchin Nub News has been reporting about the stricken store all summer, with sadly more than 10,000 jobs expected be lost as a result of Wilko's collapse across the country, including full and part time roles in the Bancroft shop.
Nub News visited the fallen retailer late last week, to be met with aisles of empty shelves, with a heartbroken employee telling us: "No-one tells us anything, we're always the last to know."
The site will close its doors for the final time on Tuesday, October 3, with Hitchin's Wilko being one of 71 locations to be purchased by Poundland owner Pepco.
Administrators at PwC have revealed the last of the high street chain's remaining stores will shut for good on Sunday, October 8.
