A Hitchin councillor has 'called in' a planning application by a late night takeaway in our town.

As Hitchin Nub News reported Uptown Pizza & Kebab have asked for permission to extend its opening times, after three previous requests were rejected by the council.

By calling-in an application, a councillor, or councillors are indicating they feel issues require debate at a forthcoming planning committee.

The takeaway at 151b Bearton Road on the corner of Brampton Park Road, has submitted a planning application aiming to open from 11am until midnight, seven days a week.

At the moment, Uptown are only allowed to open from 730am until 1030pm on weekdays and Saturdays

However, Hitchin councillor Ian Albert has raised trading concerns, who reacted to our story by tweeting "As a Bearton Ward Councillor, I have called in this application for consideration by the Planning Committee.

"Amongst many concerns I have about it, despite previous planning decisions, Uptown Pizza has continued to trade outside its permitted hours. This is unacceptable."
