A woman has been charged with the murder of a Stevenage man following an "intensive" investigation.

Erin McNeilly, aged 34, of Walden End, was charged with the murder of Peter Lynch following a serious assault on Wednesday 19 June.

Police were called just after 11.50pm the day to reports of a serious assault in Walden End where Mr Lynch was found with suspected stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

A woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of murder and was released on police bail whilst officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit carried out their investigation.

On Monday 5 August, Erin McNeilly, aged 34, of Walden End, was charged with murder.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, who is investigating, said: "Our team have been working hard to establish the full circumstances of what happened that evening and the events that lead to Peter's death.

"As a result of our enquiries, we have now charged McNeilly who has been remanded into custody. The first hearing is scheduled for Tuesday 3 September at Cambridge Crown Court.

"I'd like to thank local residents and members of the public who have assisted us with our investigation.

"If anyone has any information and is yet to speak to police, please don't hesitate to contact us."
