Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with 'major injuries' following a collision in Hitchin.

At around 7.14am on Thursday 8 August, a pedestrian and a white Volvo C30 were involved in a collision at the pelican crossing on Stevenage Road.

Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit (BCH RPU) and the East of England Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

The woman is now in a stable condition in hospital and the injuries are not being treated as life-threatening or changing.

Detective Sergeant James Wood, from the BCH RPU, said: "I am appealing to anyone who was driving along Stevenage Road at the time of the incident to please come forward.

"If you witnessed the collision, or have any dashcam footage that may support our investigation, no matter how significant you think it might be, please contact me.

"Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their patience while emergency services dealt with the incident, as well as nearby businesses for their support and those who stopped to give information."
