Stevenage eased past Shrewsbury Town, who were comfortably beaten 2-0 at the Lamex on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors lost their first League One game of the season at Broadhall Way, as Steve Evans side capped an excellent first week of the new 2023-24 season.

Fresh from eclipsing Championship side Watford on penalties during the week, to progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup, following on from winning 1-0 at Northampton Town on the opening weekend of the third tier, Boro were the better side by far.

Just before the hour mark, Evans side got the goal their dominance deserved, with Aaron Pressley sweeping home.

Shrewsbury were unable to respond, succumbing to a second goal, three minutes from time when Jamie Reid headed home at the back post.

Boro now travel to Cambridge United on Tuesday. Follow Nub News for our coverage from the Abbey Stadium.
