League One: Cambridge United 1-2 Stevenage
Jamie Reid's late winner was enough to give Steve Evans side victory at the Abbey Stadium, to make it three wins on the bounce on their return to League One.
The excellent long-range strike came only 60 seconds after the home side thought they had gained a point when Elias Kachunga had levelled on 80 minutes.
The goal cancelled out Jordan Roberts first half opener, in front of a crowd of 7,521, which included 1,259 vociferous travelling fans from North Herts, after Evans Stevenage made the short trip to Cambridge on Tuesday evening to continue their excellent start to the season.
Boro, having won promotion from the fourth tier at the end of a stellar campaign last term, picked up maximum points from their opening two matches in the rarefied air of League One, a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Sixfields, prior to a 2-0 still over Shrewsbury at the Lamex last time out.
Throw in their stirring victory over Championship side Watford on penalties in a Hertfordshire Carabao Cup first round derby, to say Evans side have overachieved so far, would be an understatement.
With Mark Bonner's U's side also boasting two wins on the bounce, after beating Oxford United 2-0 on the first day, before achieving the same scoreline at Fleetwood at the weekend, something had to give.
Following a scrappy start, in which Stevenage certainly made their mark, with a number of tough but fair challenges - infuriating the home crowd in the process - Jordan Roberts slotted past U's keeper Jack Stevens to put the visiting side ahead, as their fans celebrated at the other end of the Abbey Stadium.
Boro's No20 Aaron Pressley worked a chance early in the second half, as he twisted and turned U's right-back Liam Bennet, yet, after having beaten his man, the 21-year-old Edinburgh-born attacker signed from Brentford B in the summer, fired over when well placed.
It was Jamie Reid's turn to spurn a chance on the hour mark, when he was sent through by goalscorer Roberts, as the Boro substitute found himself, one-on-one with home keeper Stevens. The former Ipswich striker firing straight at 26-year-old former Oxford netminder.
Louis Thompson fired off a long range effort that Stevens held as Boro hunted the second goal that would have killed the game.
Despite being under the cosh, Cambridge broke upfield with Fejiri Okenabirhie feeding Kachunga, who slotted past Boro keeper Taye Ashby-Hammond to equalise on 80 minutes, as the home crowd at the Abbey erupted in joy.
However, Evans Stevenage showed character to bounce back immediately, with Reid firing past keeper Stevens with an absolutely super low, long-range drive to put the visitors ahead only 60 seconds later.
