League Two: Stevenage 1-0 Hartlepool - Danny Rose's cheeky winner seals vital victory as Boro consolidate second spot
A spot of quick thinking from Danny Rose in robbing the ball from Hartlepool goalkeeper Ben Killip to fire into an empty net on 79 minutes was enough to land Stevenage a 1-0 win over struggling Hartlepool.
With the visitors starting the day in the relegation places, a triumph for Steve Evans side would been expected. Yet, that was without factoring in a battling performance from Keith Curle's side, who were resolute throughout a goalless first half.
But just as fans started worrying about being held at home by the side in a precarious 23rd place, with the worst goal difference in the division, quick-witted Rose fired home after robbing Pools keeper Killip to give Stevenage a 1-0 win.
The victory sees Stevenage remain second with an impressive 39 points from 18 games, a mere three points behind leaders Orient, who won 2-0 at Harrogate.
