Stevenage and Tranmere played out a hard-fought goalless draw at the Lamex on Saturday afternoon.

In a match full of endeavour and enterprise from both sides Alex Revell's side emerged with a point to keep the home side out of the relegation places.

After a shapeless opening, Stevenage could have gone ahead in the 27th minute when Luke Norris rose to meet the impressive Luther James-Wildin's cross, but Tranmere keeper Scott Davies kept him out.

However, it was Keith Hill's visitors that looked the more likely victors at times - with Morgan Ferrier's cross-cum shot two minutes later striking the woodwork, with Boro's on loan Chelsea keeper Jamie Cumming looking beaten at his near post.

Rovers could have claimed all three points 12 minutes after the interval, when former England international and Everton stalwart James Vaughan latched onto Ferrier's pass to fire off a powerful low shot that Cumming blocked with his legs.

There was still time for debutant Matty Stevens to break the deadlock late on, but his shot flew across the goal, evading the onrushing Norris at the back post - to leave both sides having to settle for a point apiece.

The result means the north Herts side have lost just once in their last eight League Two fixtures. but for good periods of this encounter, they were second best

Boro travel to Crawley Tuesday, while the point ensured 15th place for Tranmere on a day when League Two produced seven draws.
