Stevenage beat Forest Green Rovers 3-0 at the Lamex on Tuesday evening with an outstanding display.

Two first half goals from man of the match Danny Newton stunned the visitors before Elliot List made it three after the interval.

Alex Revell's side gave their best performance of the season against the side from the west county who had started the day in second place in League Two.

Quite simply Boro were first to every ball, with their solid backline, marshalled superbly by the evergreen Scott Cuthbert, refusing to cede an inch to Mark Cooper's visitors.

Luther James-Wildin put in another excellent performance full of power and athleticism and never stopped running from first until last.

He also had a hand in the home side's opener on the half hour mark, when he played in Elliot Osborne down the right, whose cut-back gave Newton a tap-in from close range.

The whole team showed their quality, with Terence Vancooten once again standing out, as the Boro defence kept a clean sheet.

The wily Tom Pett kept things ticking over in the centre of the park, and could have netted, if it wasn't for the visitors keeper Lewis Thomas pulling off an excellent save.

However, Newton made it 2-0 eight minutes before the break when his deflected effort squirmed in off the post.

In a full-blooded match with no quarter given, nor expected, Stevenage went 3-0 ahead in the 64th minute when List beat Thomas with a first-time shot after being played in by Chris Lines.

In truth the scoreline could have been wider as Boro eased to 16th, their highest position all winter.
