Stevenage 3-0 Sutton: Luke Norris' brace seals comprehensive victory in match marred by serious injury to United's Jonathan Barden
League Two: Stevenage 3-0 Sutton United
Stevenage eased into second place after outclassing Matt Gray's visitors at the Lamex on Tuesday evening.
Dan Sweeney put Boro ahead in the 28th minute, with a header from the edge of the box that appeared more speculative than intentional. Yet the ball evaded a crowded penalty area to find its way past Sutton keeper Lewis Ward to make it 1-0.
Luke Norris doubled the lead for dominant Stevenage 180 seconds after the interval before adding his second and the home side's third to make it 3-0 with 20 minutes remaining through a fine long-range strike following a sweeping move.
Norris' evening ended six minutes later when he picked up a nasty facial injury that saw him replaced by Jamie Reid.
The match ended on a sad note when Sutton's Jonathan Barden was seriously injured as the clock ticked down. The North London-born 29-year old immediately signalled to the bench he was in great distress having sustained what looked to be a serious injury to his lower leg or ankle.
Medics treated Barden for nearly ten minutes prior to him being carried off, to warm applause from both sets of supporters.
The match ended in a subdued atmosphere, with concerns over Barden and Norris' welfare, which saw a total of 15 minutes added on at the end.
