Stevenage boss Paul Tisdale has been reflecting after his first win as Boro boss.

The Lamex outfit clinched their first win under Tisdale since he assumed charge in late November by beating Walsall 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

An early own goal from the Saddlers' Rollin Menayese after only 25 seconds helped the home side make a bright start to the League Two clash.

Chris Lines added a second on eight minutes before Walsall No7 Brendan Kiernan pulled a goal back for the visitors with 20 minutes remaining.

That was before former Exeter captain Jake Taylor made it 3-1 four minutes into added time to seal victory for a Stevenage side with six players aged 30 or over, and a first win since November 20.

"To build for the future we need to win games," Tisdale told Nub News after the match, adding: "You have to create momentum. Developing players a lot better in a winning environment.

"My first job is to get out of a hole as we're near the bottom of the league and create some momentum.

"Trust me, there will be plenty of opportunities to develop along the way. Players who are 32 can still develop.

"You can't do everything at once. We need to create winning environment, we need to get results - and I think we're on the road to that."

When asked how he would mark his first win as Boro boss Tisdale deadpanned: "I'll be doing what I normally do after a game and that is driving back home, stopping at the services and having a cup of coffee on my own, with no-one having a clue what I've just done.

"I might then celebrate with a packet of crisps as well."

The win moved Stevenage one place up to 21st in League Two, four points off the dreaded drop zone.
