Stevenage FC supremo Phil Wallace hails departing Lennie Lawrence
Stevenage bid farewell to Lennie Lawrence while appointing Joe Dunne as assistant manager to Alex Revell.
Mark Sampson will remain as first team coach, but the mentoring role of Lennie Lawrence will come to an end.
The well-respected Lawrence has worked at a raft of clubs during his career in football, which spans more than five decades, including spells at Nottingham Forest, Bolton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Hereford United, Bristol Rovers, Grimsby Town, Luton Town, Bradford City, Middlesbrough, Charlton Athletic and Plymouth Argyle prior to joining the Broadhall Way outfit in June.
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace praised Lawrence, saying: "It was a privilege and pleasure to have Lennie with us as a mentor to Alex for the opening few months of the season.
"His experience has been very helpful, but the club need a manager and assistant manager on a daily basis.
"He leaves with our sincere thanks and gratitude for his work and guidance."
The experienced 47-year-old Dunne has had an extensive career in management after being in charge for nearly 150 games at Colchester and Cambridge United.
In 2019 he was appointed assistant manager to Graham Coughlan at Bristol Rovers with the duo enjoying a successful spell before Coughlan took him to Field Mill as his assistant.
Dunne was let go in October this year after Mansfield parted company with Coughlan.
Boro supremo Wallace added: "We have not had the start we wanted in the league, but we have improved significantly, with just one defeat over 90 minutes in the last six games.
"We have the basis of a good side and that is starting to show in our performances now.
"Alex has worked hard to get us to this position, but the more experience we can bring to our management team, the better.
"Alex has chosen to bring Joe on board to help him and we are hopeful his experience, passion and energy will be a big asset moving forwards."
