What’s Your First Football Memory? Continuing the Conversation on Football History and Dementia**
By Katie Wilson 2nd Nov 2026
Football is about so much more than what happens on the pitch over ninety minutes—it's about memories, lifelong friendships, and the conversations that keep us connected.
As part of my ongoing **Two Minutes Past Eight** men's mental health campaign, I am continuing our community initiative in Hitchin using the power of nostalgic football moments to bridge gaps, particularly for those affected by dementia and memory loss.
Long-term memories of iconic matches—like the historic 1981 FA Cup Final replay between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City—have a unique way of unlocking stories, sparking joy, and bringing people together.
I am inviting local football fans of all clubs and generations to share their stories in 30 to 50 words. Whether it's your first match at the ground, standing on the terraces with a family member, or watching legendary finals unfold on television, sharing these experiences can help combat isolation and stimulate meaningful dialogue.
**How to get involved:**
If you or someone you know would like to share a cherished football memory, you can reach out to me directly via email at **[email protected]**.
Because football is about more than the game—it's about memories, friendships, and conversations.
