Stevenage's talented attacking midfielder Charlie Carter has extended his stay in the red and white, much to the delight of the Boro faithful.

The former Chesterfield man was an integral part of Alex Revell's side in the first half of the season before an injury in February halted his campaign.

The playmaker made some outstanding contributions last term, most notably his brace against Scunthorpe and his winner against local rivals Cambridge.

Putting pen to paper on a new deal gives Boro a further boost after their busy start to the summer, with Jake Taylor and Arthur Read also agreeing to new deals.

Continuing that winning trend

Keeping the core of the squad from last season ensures that winning momentum continues into next season. Player like Arthur Read, TVC, Cuthbert and Carter ensure that group stays together.

Playmaking

Carter's numbers may not be terrific, but he offers something else in the final third that maybe the team lacked in his absence. 10 goals in 60 games shows he's not one to underestimate however.

His quick feet and ability to make space for a shot has been shown countless times, and when he gets the ball onto his strong foot, it's rare that he misses the target.

Versatility

Carters' ability to play almost everywhere on the pitch was put on full show under Graham Westley, where I remember watching him on the wing, central midfield, striker, defensive midfield and even briefly as a right back and wing back.

This versatility is key for Alex Revell, as he wants a smaller, tight knit squad to work with, and at 24, still has plenty of time to progress and develop as a player.
