Our speaker Corinne Price has been Head Gardener at Marble Hill for almost three years, moving there from Wrest Park. She started her career in Cardiff's public parks, later working for both the National Trust and English Heritage. She will tell us about the recently restored Marble Hill, in Twickenham, which is one of the finest surviving examples of early eighteenth century architecture and landscaping. The house and gardens were both planned in the early 1720s and designed to be viewed and enjoyed together. During the 20th century the garden was managed separately to the house leading to a disconnection between the two. English Heritage have recently completed a project to restore Henrietta Howard's rural retreat, using a survey from around 1749 to guide the recreation of the early eighteenth century villa landscape, including a ninepin bowling alley, flower gardens, terraces and serpentine paths.
