Two people have been arrested in connection with a Hitchin stabbing.

A fight broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning on Windmill Hill between a large group of people, resulting in a man receiving a stab wound to the abdomen at around 130am.

Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and an extensive search of the area was carried out including support from the force's dog unit.

Hertfordshire constabulary told Hitchin Nub News: "Enquiries are continuing at this time to establish how the injury was caused and to trace those involved.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police using the non-emergency reporting methods, quoting ISR 86 of 9 August."

A man and a woman remain in police custody at this time. The victim is said to be stable in hospital.

A nearby business on Hermitage Road told Hitchin Nub News under condition of anonymity: "Windmill Hill is a great place for people to visit and relax after taking in the town - but with the hot temperatures we've had recently more and more people have been using it at night.

"Something like this was bound to happen after lockdown.

"I just hope the person who was stabbed is ok."
