Appeal following burglary in Hitchin
By James Denselow 16th Feb 2026
Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a burglary at a home in Hitchin.
The incident happened in Whitehill Road at around 8.30pm on Saturday 7 February, when two males gained access to a property via the rear of the home.
The suspects searched the property before leaving. Nothing is believed to have been stolen.
Investigating officer Fran Aylin said the incident could have been distressing for the resident, who was inside the home at the time.
She said: "The occupant was at home whilst this burglary took place, which of course could have been very frightening. I am appealing for witnesses who may have seen two males acting suspiciously between 8pm and 9.30pm on Whitehill Road.
"I would also like to ask local residents to check their CCTV in case it has captured something helpful.
"If you have any information that may support our investigation, please report this to police."
Anyone with information can email Investigator Aylin at [email protected], quoting crime reference 41/12175/26.
Information can also be reported online at herts.police.uk/report, via the force's online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact, or by calling the non-emergency number 101.
Alternatively, people can remain anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their secure online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
Residents can find advice on protecting their homes from burglary on the Hertfordshire Constabulary website.
