A charity match featuring a large number of former Arsenal players has been hailed as a huge success.

Ian Allinson's ex-professional side took on Betty's Blue Boys in aid of the Garden House Hospice on a family friendly afternoon.

Betty's side were led by dad Lee, who lost 2-1 to his father, and former 1980s Arsenal player Ian, on Sunday.

The match proved a big hit and helped to raise awareness of the hospice as well as much-needed funds for the renowned charity.

Posting after the game Betty's mum Faye said with a smile: "It was the most fantastic day.

"Thank you to everyone who helped out and supported and played. We will definitely do this again.

"Betty is still talking to grandad - so all is good!"

You might know Betty Leigh Allinson from her incredible fundraising during the height of the first lockdown last season, when the inspirational youngster rode a mile a day on her bike to raise funds to the hospice.

Betty made national headlines as the country took her to their hearts as she raised more than £30k for the hospice, winning praise from so many, including the late Captain Tom

Ian Selley was among the large contingent of former Gunners who gladly took part in the game to show solidarity with the inspirational little Betty and the north Herts based charity - as the afternoon turned into a joyful reunion of sorts for the Arsenal brotherhood.

Ian, who was part of George Graham's team that lifted the European Cup Winners Cup in 1994 posted a message to Betty and everyone on Monday: "Thank you for the invite to come down and play. Can't walk this morning but it was well worth it and the Selley crew had a great day."

Graham Stack, who was on the bench the day the Arsenal Invincibles won the Premier League at the home of their bitter rivals Spurs in 2004, also played in Sunday's charity match at Shefford.

Posting a great picture of Arsenal old boys on his Instagam Graham added: "What a day catching up with my best pals for a great cause.

"Winning together as normal and laughing our [heads] off reminiscing with David Noble, Steve Sidwell, Andrew Douglas and John Halls."

It was a perfect end to a perfect day for all associated with the teams, Garden House Hospice and of course, The Arsenal.

As each and every former player did Arsenal's reputation proud while underlining the club's ethos: "Remember who you are, what you are and who you represent."
