A cult hit TV show visited Hitchin recently - and Hitchin Nub News was there to interview the star presenters.

The Big Breakfast came to town earlier this month for a live outside broadcast.

Channel Four's legendary Big Breakfast wowed punters in Hitchin town centre when they came to film a live programme.

The iconic show broadcast live from the Market Place with presenters Harriet Rose and Melvin Odoom fronting the production, offering some Hitchin locals the opportunity to win a sum of cash prizes in a mini game show hosted in the town centre.

Hundreds of people from Hitchin and surrounding towns turned out to watch proceedings, which was shown to millions on terrestrial television.

Ruby Corrigan was there to chat to presenters Melvin Odoom and Harriet Rose for Nub News.

Nub News: Out of all of the towns in the UK, why has The Big Breakfast come to Hitchin today?

Harriet: We love Hitchin!

Melvin: We are presenters of the people; we love to get involved and Hitchin is a wonderful place.

Harriet: We've met so many lovely people already.

Melvin: Exactly, so why not!

Harriet: They have great ice cream here too, honestly, it's amazing.

Nub News: What is the main aim of this event? Is it to explore the town? or to give the people of Hitchin a well-deserved opportunity to take part in a fun challenge?

Melvin: Yes, we want to give the people of Hitchin a chance to win some big money prizes. I love Hitchin

Harriet: Everywhere we go we want to get to know the people. The whole show is about the public and getting them involved in The Big Breakfast family.

Nub News: What do you think publicity like this will mean for such a town such as Hitchin?

Melvin: I think it's great! The Big Breakfast has been to so many towns, you know, we've been to Dudley, Manchester, Bristol. Like I said I love Hitchin, so I think it's amazing.

Harriet: I've never been before but I think it's great! I'm glad to be here.

Nub News: I have grown up with my parents and older relatives talking about the Big Breakfast, how has it been relaunching such an iconic tv show that many generations of Brits have grown up watching?

Harriet: Honestly, an honour. I cried when I got this job, like I watched it when I was a kid and I always wanted to be on a show that was chaos. And this definitely is beautiful chaos.

Melvin: Yeah, there's never been a TV show like it.

Harriet: Bringing it back with the same energy as the 90s is a bit of a feat. I think Mo and AJ are incredible, and of course we're incredible.

Melvin: Obviously...

Harriet: Take the initiative to go and talk to people. If you see a group filming then go and talk to the producer, or to someone who looks like they know what they're doing. Send your CV out everywhere and believe in yourself!

Melvin: My advice is that you don't have to wait for big companies or corporations to come to you. You know you're the generation where you can create your own content and get an audience through social media. If you've got a good idea, don't wait for someone else to do it!
