Iconic national TV show is huge hit after live broadcast from Hitchin, by Nub News' music and entertainment correspondent Ruby Corrigan.

Channel Four's legendary Big Breakfast wowed punters in Hitchin town centre when the programme filmed live on Saturday morning.

The cult show broadcast live from the Market Place with presenters Harriet Rose and Melvin Odoom fronting the production, offering some Hitchin locals the opportunity to win a sum of cash prizes in a mini game show hosted in the town centre.

Hundreds of people from Hitchin and surrounding towns turned out to watch proceedings, which was shown to millions on terrestrial television on Saturday morning.

Speaking to Hitchin Nub News, one of the Hitchin hopefuls wanting to win big said: "This is such a big deal for Hitchin," while another commented on how "[the show coming to Hitchin] brings back a sense of nostalgia. I was on the show when it was first being broadcast."

And the day wasn't just an immense opportunity for the contestants, as Hitchin's iconic Market Square also played host to the annual Hitchin Food festival.

The popular event featured an array of local, independent bakers, makers and creatives that gathered in the late summer sun, but this year with the possibility of being featured on live television.

When Nub News asked renowned local rapeseed oil company Mrs Middleton's about what they hope publicity in the town would do for small food businesses, they replied 'I hope this will spread the word of local food, local producers and things like that.'

Hitchin Town favourite 'Neighbourhood Bakes' agreed, saying how 'it is a nice thing to have in our amazing town and it should be fun to be in the background. If we get featured, then that's a bonus."
