Residents and community groups across North Herts are being invited to a special climate action event next month featuring a screening of the documentary Power Station and a live Q&A with the film's co-director.

The event will take place at Broadway Cinema & Theatre on Wednesday 10 June as part of Great Big Green Week – the UK's largest celebration of community action tackling climate change.

Organised with support from North Herts Council, the evening aims to encourage more community-led renewable energy projects and connect residents interested in local climate action.

The event begins at 4.30pm with a networking session bringing together community energy groups, environmental organisations, councils and residents. Groups including Green Heat Coop will be attending to discuss ideas and opportunities for community renewable projects across North Herts.

At 5.20pm, audiences will watch Power Station, a documentary by filmmakers Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn. The film follows their attempt to install solar panels on every home in their street and a nearby school in Walthamstow, showing how collective local action can create meaningful environmental change.

A live Q&A will follow at 7pm, hosted by Cllr Amy Allen alongside Dan Edelstyn, exploring how North Herts communities could develop projects ranging from solar cooperatives to resident-led energy schemes.

Sarah Kingsley, Director for Environment at North Herts Council, said the film showed how "the most powerful climate solutions often begin with just a handful of determined people".

Kris Karslake from Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation added that growing national investment in local energy projects meant there was "real excitement for Community Energy across England".
