Climb Hitchin appeals for volunteer instructors to help keep local climbing sessions running
By James Denselow 15th Oct 2026
Climb Hitchin is calling for new volunteer instructors to help keep its climbing sessions running, warning that a shortage of recruits could force it to reduce services or potentially close.
The volunteer-staffed organisation is looking for people aged 18 and over to join its award-winning team, supporting sessions on Mondays and Thursdays.
Volunteers need a friendly, enthusiastic approach to helping others and must commit to at least two sessions a month.
Applicants must also be signed off as a climber at Climb Hitchin. Anyone who has not climbed with the organisation before is encouraged to come along and have a go.
In its appeal, the Climb Hitchin team said: "We rely upon the goodwill and support of our volunteers to continue offering climbing in the local area.
"Without new volunteers each year we would be forced to scale down our services or potentially close."
New recruits will receive training to become an instructor at Climb Hitchin, with opportunities to develop their skills and undertake further training.
Volunteers also earn a free climbing session after instructing at three sessions, and can join social get-togethers and climbing sessions with fellow team members.
"This is your opportunity to express your interest in becoming an instructor and join our awesome and award-winning volunteer team," the organisation said.
Anyone interested in finding out more is asked to contact the Climb Hitchin team. Those who received the appeal by email can reply directly to express their interest.
