A team of volunteers from Croudace Homes has helped give Hitchin-based biodiversity charity BuzzWorks a welcome boost by refurbishing outdoor storage facilities at the group's Old Hale Way site.

BuzzWorks, established in 2007, is a volunteer-led association dedicated to educating the public about pollination, the importance of bees and sustainable beekeeping practices. The charity runs training sessions and relies heavily on volunteers to support children's education programmes, administration, beekeeping activities and garden maintenance.

Five volunteers from Croudace Homes spent a day on site carrying out maintenance work, sanding and repainting sheds used by the organisation to help ensure the centre remains welcoming and well maintained for visitors and volunteers alike.

Stuart Elvidge, Sales and Marketing Director at Croudace North Thames, said supporting BuzzWorks reflected the company's focus on community and sustainability.

"Sustainability and community are at the heart of our values at Croudace Homes, so we always strive to give back to local organisations, especially those helping to protect the environment," he said.

"BuzzWorks' mission is especially important, with 35 UK bee species currently under threat of extinction. Volunteering with the charity gave us the opportunity to support a local organisation while also learning more about an important environmental issue."

Mr Elvidge added that sustainability principles are also reflected in Croudace's nearby Weavers Gate development, with landscaping designed to deliver a 10 per cent Biodiversity Net Gain.

Paul Johnson, Trustee at BuzzWorks, welcomed the support. "We are extremely thankful for the volunteers from Croudace Homes. Their enthusiasm and hard work made a real difference to our facilities," he said.

"It's encouraging to see a local developer taking such a hands-on approach to supporting both the community and the environment. It was a pleasure to work with a developer whose values align so closely with ours."

Weavers Gate, located near Codicote, is a development of 80 two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes, with the first phase currently available to reserve off-plan.
