CCTV appeal following thefts in Hitchin

Police have released CCTV images of two men they would like to identify following two thefts in Hitchin.

At around 1110am on Wednesday, August 2, two men attended Brooker & Sons Ltd on Bilton Road.

They entered the shop and picked up around £1,000 worth of hand tools and walked out without paying for the goods.

Then between 1127am and 1132am on the same day, two men went into Asset Fixings & Tools Ltd on Wilbury Way.

They walked into the shop and selected items from the display before placing the products under their coats and walking out without paying for the items.

PC Martin Barringer, of North Herts Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "I'd like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or who recognises the men in the images.

"They are thought to have been in the area around the time of the incident and could be able to help with our enquiries.

"If you recognise them then please contact me by email via [email protected].

"Additionally, if you see any hand tools being sold in the area under suspicious circumstances, please report this to us.

"I also want to encourage businesses to stay vigilant and if you notice any suspicious activity in your shops, particularly in the Hitchin area, contact police."

You can report information online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/61462/23.
