A statement put out by the District council encouraged residents to participate in the North Herts Community Lottery in order to "directly supporting charitable causes and groups within your local area".

The lottery costs £1 a ticket per week, and 50p of your £1 goes directly to the good cause you are choosing to support, with 10p going into a general North Herts council good cause fund.

The council say that the "lottery is a win-win – you're contributing towards charitable causes whilst also being in with a chance of winning a prize every week!"

In 2024 (as of the latest draw), £7900 of prize money has been awarded to residents in North Herts.

Over 500 people have won a prize this year, whether this has been £2000, £250, £25 or 3 extra tickets into the lottery.

The lottery also raises around £27,000 worth of good cause funding annually.

There is a Christmas Super Draw running, being drawn on Saturday 21 December - which means that you could be in with the chance of winning an extra £3000 prize.

The council are also urging residents to  buy gift cards for the lottery, saying that "give a loved one an extremely unique and special gift this year by giving them the chance to support their community and win extra prizes too!"

Cllr Val Bryant, North Herts Council's Executive Member for Community, praised the lottery highly:

"The Community Lottery offers North Herts residents a fantastic chance to support local good causes but also be in for a chance to win something from it themselves. The variety of causes on our Lottery means that we have a cause suitable for everyone to support."
