Hertfordshire Constabulary on the look out for more special constables
Hertfordshire Constabulary is on the look out for more special constables.
A special constable is a part-time, voluntary police officer with the same powers as a regular police officer.
Specials come from all walks of life and volunteer their spare time for a minimum of 16 hours a month.
They are trainined and play an essential role in preventing, reducing and tackling crime and keeping the community safe.
David Lloyd, Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner underlined the importance of 'special's, saying they bring 'something different to the job.'
He explained: "If any of you are looking to be a special, we'll be very pleased to think about you. But even though we're going to have more police officers than ever, my personal feeling is that specials bring something different.
"They're the volunteer police officers, if you remember. They're the ones who give 16 hours up a month to do some policing.
"We get some really brilliant volunteering especially in our rural areas.
"The police special often feels very much part of the community as well as part of the police force - it's something I want to continue pushing and continue driving to ensure that we do."
