Police in Hertfordshire are shining a well-deserved spotlight on their Neighbourhood Policing Teams as they support a national campaign highlighting their crucial role.

Monday (23 June) marks the start of Neighbourhood Policing Week – led by the College of Policing and the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) – which aims to highlight the vital contribution of those who work directly with their communities and local partners.

Neighbourhood policing is a specialism which sees teams of officers, staff and volunteers striving to deliver a first-class service, keeping people safe and improving their quality of life.

It helps to build trust, reduce and prevent crime, and improve public confidence in policing. By working closely with residents and partners, Neighbourhood Policing Teams can and do resolve issues that can blight lives such as anti-social behaviour, speeding, drug crime, shoplifting, and fly-tipping.

Superintendent Anna Wright, of the Local Policing Command, said: "Neighbourhood Policing Week is our chance to build on and celebrate the great work that we do, and showcase it to the public. It also underlines our commitment to the five pillars set out in the government's Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee (opens in new window), which has pledged to transform local policing for our communities.

"Officers and staff in our Neighbourhood Policing Teams are your 'bobbies on the beat' whose aim is to know their designated area inside out. Their hyperlocal knowledge is invaluable to colleagues in other departments when investigating incidents including burglary, robbery, sexual offences, hate crime and theft.

"We're supporting the Home Office's pledge to reinvigorate the community-led policing model with every neighbourhood to have a named, contactable officer who is responsible for resolving the local issues which matter most to residents."
