An eagerly-awaited food and drink festival in Hitchin has been hailed as a huge hit.

Top Field hosted the Hitchin Cider and Cheese Festival on Friday as hordes of thirsty punters descended on the Canary Club on Fishponds Road.

The popular event boasted an array of more than 30 top quality ciders from renowned producers near and far, including North Herts' Apple Cottage from Baldock. There was also a cheese section along with succulent scotch eggs and other savoury snacks.

Event's organiser Alan Clark and volunteer Mick Docking - both renowned Hitchin Town stalwarts - spoke to Hitchin Nub News at the event.

"It's great to see so many people attend the festival," good natured Mick said, while supping a rhubarb cider called Cuckoo Penny, while Alan added: "We would like to thank all of our sponsors, both commercial and private individuals, in particular iDNet who have been very helpful in supporting us. Their enthusiasm has been infectious!"

The event took place before and during the Canaries first game of the 2022-23 season, their traditional pre-season friendly against near neighbours Luton Town on Friday evening.

The match was a sellout with Butts Close acting as an auxiliary car park.
