HITCHIN WEATHER: This week has seen glorious September sunshine amid far higher than average temperatures - but how long can we expect this to last?

Hitchin has been sizzling with temperatures posting numbers higher than Barcelona - but can it continue?

Alas, no, is the answer.

However, in the short term, sunseekers in our area today [Wednesday] can expect the glorious hot weather to continue through until this evening, with the mercury peaking at 28C this afternoon.

Make the most of it because cooler weather is expected to reach our town on Thursday, with a top temperature of 23C, with rain showers expected across the day and Friday.

The Met Office: "Much of the UK is currently in the midst of warm conditions for the time of year, with temperatures in excess of 30C expected in some southern areas.

"Only six Septembers in the last 50 years have experienced temperatures above 30C, with three of those occurring in the last decade (2020, 2016, 2013).

"However, the conditions are expected to change for most over the next few days as a front moves in from the west."
