Hitchin: Four bitesize Covid stories to get you up to speed with latest news
With so much information regarding Covid flying around at the moment, here are four things you need to know about the coronavirus pandemic.
1) Latest Data on Covid cases in our area
The latest Hertfordshire data shows that in the seven days leading to December 29 there were 21,043 Covid cases recorded in the county – equivalent to a case rate of 1759.9 per 100,000 population.[.B]
A month earlier – on November 29 – the data show the case rate across Hertfordshire was 511 per 100,000.
On December 28 there were 95 people with Covid in hospital – which is 28 more than a week earlier.
2) Plan B rules to continue - but change for travel tests
England's current Plan B rules will carry on for at least another three weeks, Boris Johnson has confirmed in the Commons on Wednesday afternoon.
The PM told MPs Covid measures will be reviewed again by January 26 - but will not be scrapped immediately as hospital admissions are rising rapidly, with more than 15,000 Covid patients in hospital in England.
3) Changes to travel rules
The beleaguered travel and tourism industry will be relieved that double-jabbed people coming to England will no longer need to show proof of a negative test before they set off.
From Sunday, they will also be able to take lateral flow tests rather than PCRs after arriving in England and will not be required to self-isolate while awaiting the results.
4) North Herts tops county
As Nub News reported earlier North Herts tops county for adults in 35-39 age bracket having at least one jab to fight Covid[.B]
However, one in four adults aged 35 and under in Hertfordshire have yet to be vaccinated against Covid, latest data shows.
