Kind-hearted Hitchin pub punters and staff have helped to raise a whopping £1,600 for a great cause.

Staff and regulars raised the impressive amount for a defibrillator, through a series of quizzes at The Orange Tree on Stevenage Road.

Popular landlord Kris told Nub News: "We raised mainly through Monday quizzes where the third place's winning money would go towards the cause, however most winners also donated all their winnings too.

"We also organised a four day mini fest where all fun was free, we just asked for donations.

"When we raised almost enough, we contacted SADS UK who helped to find and buy best defibrillator and got us discount and McMullen's head office paid all installations charges."

A McMullen pub since 1902, The Orange Tree was rebuilt in 1976 and revamped in 2018.

Hitchin's secret garden and sun trap is just a stone's throw from the bustling town centre, and a hub of the local community.

Expect a warm welcome from the hard-working team under Kris' leadership as well as locally brewed beers, world lagers, hand selected wines and a delicious menu celebrating the best of the British pub.
