Hitchin Greggs is closed: Here's why

Hungry visitors to Hitchin town centre this week may have noticed there is one fewer eatery available to choose from.

While the centre of Hitchin is packed with independent restaurants and food options, a popular shop selling hot food, sandwiches and snacks is currently closed.

Greggs on Hitchin High Street has shut its door to punters - but fear not, fans of succulent sausage rolls and succulent steak bakes, the closure isn't permanent.

A notice in the window of the High Street site confirmed the popular bakery would be closed from Sunday, April 21 due to refurbishment that will last until nearly the end of next month.

Doors will reopen at the end of May, with Greggs 'looking forward to seeing customers' again on Saturday, May 25.
