Hiking heroes from a Hitchin company completed the Three Peaks to raise more than £10,000 for charity.

Staff members from construction and interior fit-out specialist Willmott Dixon's Hitchin office scaled Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales to raise the incredible five-figure total, which includes £3,474.08 for Sue Ryder St John's Hospice.

They were inspired to support the Sue Ryder hospice in memory of much-loved colleague, Sarah Keeping, who sadly died last year who received care from the hospice before she passed away.

The hiking heroes climbed the three highest peaks of England, Scotland and Wales, braving fog, wind and rain to tackle a gruelling total ascent of 3,064 metres and trekked a distance of 23 miles over rugged terrain in just 24 hours.

James Vosper, Assistant Supply Chain Coordinator, from Willmott Dixon, said: "As a team, we wanted to raise money for three worthwhile causes that had recently impacted our people, including the loss of one of our colleagues.

"As such, a number of our Trainees and Directors took on the Three Peaks challenge and a charity football tournament.

"In total we raised just over £10,000 with the money then split equally across the three charities."

As well as taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, to raise further funds they also put on a dazzling display in a charity football tournament.

Jo Landucci, Senior Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder St John's Hospice, added: "From all of us at Sue Ryder St John's Hospice, we want to say a huge thank you to the staff at Willmott Dixon for their incredible support.

"We have been really impressed with how they have gone over and above to raise vital funds and pay a fitting tribute.

"Their kind donation will help us to make sure we can keep offering our expert palliative care and support to local families when they need us the most – and fill their last days with love."

The hospice is searching for other super supporters who can take part in fundraising challenges – such as their Snowdon by Night adventure.

The hospice's fundraising team are on hand to support any other organisations or individuals who might be looking to support a local charity in 2022.
