Hitchin Lido closed after lifeguard rescues boy

Hitchin's lido has closed at short notice this afternoon (May 28).
Everyone Active confirmed the closure in a short statement on social media this afternoon.
Local eyewitnesses have reported a "serious incident" and an air ambulance and emergency services reportedly remain on the scene.
Nub News understands from East of England Ambulance Service that the situation is "ongoing".
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called just after 2.20pm with reports that a medical emergency at a swimming pool on Fishponds Road in Hitchin. We sent two ambulances, two ambulance officer vehicles, the East Anglian Air Ambulance and a community first responder. The patient was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further treatment."
Everyone Active put out a statement saying: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the Swimming Pools (inside and outdoor) at Hitchin Swimming & Fitness Centre are closed for the remainder of the day."
Tim Melvin, contract manager, said: "We can confirm a boy was rescued by a lifeguard from Hitchin Lido on Thursday, May 28. Emergency services were called and the boy was taken to hospital. We send him our best wishes and hope he makes a full recovery".
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended yellow heat health alerts for London, the South East and East of England until 20:00 BST on Saturday, warning that sustained hot weather can pose risks to vulnerable people.
