Hitchin MP Bim Afolami has hailed shops in his constituency that have supported vulnerable customers during the Covid crisis.

Hitchin's parliamentarian has praised convenience stores across our area that have kept our communities going through the pandemic.

It is estimated that such businesses across his constituency provide jobs for at least 549 people.

Mr Afolami said: "Thank you to all the convenience stores in Hitchin and Harpdenden for the great work you do at the heart of the community."

It is estimated that local shops now provide more than 60,000 home deliveries a week in their communities across the UK, while 21 per cent of stores in our eastern region work more than 60 hours a week supporting our towns.
