HITCHIN: North Herts Liberal Democrats are calling for Parliament to be recalled - so MPs can hold a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The demand follows the revelations that despite repeated denials to the contrary, Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak have been fined over lockdown-breaking parties at Downing Street during the height of the pandemic.

Hitchin's Sam Collins, for North Herts LibDems, said: "The announcement that both the Prime Minister and Chancellor have been fined by the police should see both of them resign, but I doubt that they will.

"The Conservative Party has treated the entire nation with contempt, and will continue to do so, unless the nation sends them a clear signal in the local elections.

"Conservative MPs including the one for Hitchin & Harpenden, must demand the resignation of Sunak and Johnson, as anything else can only be seen as an approval of their actions."

Hitchin Nub News has contacted our town's MP for comment on Partygate but has yet to receive an answer.
