The only way is up! Our Lady Catholic Primary School, Hitchin, celebrates Ofsted success

School community celebrates after inspection finds it is 'friendly and welcoming' and 'pupils are happy and enjoy learning'

Children, teachers and families are celebrating after Our Lady Catholic Primary School, in Hitchin, was rated as 'Good' by Ofsted.

The school's Ofsted report said that pupils 'are polite and respectful' and the wide array of opportunities, trips and visitors means 'pupils connect their learning with the wider world… and are well prepared for the next stage of their education'.

Following a recent inspection the school, on Old Hale Way, has been found to offer a 'Good' quality of education across every category.

The glowing report says that Our Lady Catholic Primary School offers a 'broad curriculum that develops interest and curiosity' and 'supports pupils to gain important knowledge and understanding'.

Ofsted said: "Pupils' personal development is supported well through the curriculum and the wider opportunities that are available, such as sport and music. Pupils learn to keep themselves and others safe, including online.

"Pupils learn about different cultures, their traditions and beliefs. Pupils learn to respect each other's differences and celebrate diversity."

The school is hosting an admissions evening next month, with prospective pupils and parents invited to come along and explore their fantastic facilities, meet the school's friendly teachers and find out everything you need to know about joining the thriving and inclusive school in the heart of our community.

Our Lady Catholic Primary School is part of the Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust's family of schools, one of the country's top performing Catholic multi-academy trusts that offers an inclusive, welcoming community that helps children from all backgrounds to thrive.

Ciara Nicholson, Executive Headteacher at Our Lady Catholic Primary School, added: "I have watched our community school go from strength to strength and am very pleased to see it recognised by Ofsted.

"Our young people are thriving and together, our school community is a welcoming, friendly group to be a part of. We're proud to be an inclusive school and it's wonderful to see Ofsted celebrating our commitment to helping young people with special educational needs and disabilities to flourish, and dedication to ensuring children learn about difference cultures.

"I would like to take this opportunity to invite parents in the local area to visit us and see if your child could benefit from exceptional teaching, small class groups and exciting facilities."

Pupils are supported and guided spiritually and morally, learning how to make good effective choices - underlined by the school's policies, procedures, behaviour and actions.

The school says all talents are recognised and everyone feels successful, enjoys their learning, makes good progress and achieves their potential.

Sarah Snowball, Headteacher at Our Lady Catholic Primary School, added: "I would like to thank the fantastic teaching teams who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to deliver improvements that ensure our school community thrives; our determined young people who continue to be a credit to the school; and our supportive families."

Our Lady Catholic Primary School has places available and is offering tours to families, with the opportunity to visit the school's facilities and meet teachers. To arrange a tour contact [email protected].

Admissions evening is Tuesday, November 15 at 7pm.
