Hitchin riverside: Large Weeping Willow falls near St Mary's Church - no casualties reported

A large Weeping Willow tree has fallen near St Mary's Church in Hitchin town centre.

The tree fell near St Mary's, the riverside and the River Hiz around 1015am this morning, Tuesday, [September 12].

Nub News understands that thankfully, there were no casualties reported.

Members of the public informed Hitchin Town Rangers.

A bystander told Hitchin Nub News: "People should stay away from the area as it could be dangerous to climb on the branches."

According to experts, Weeping Willows, also known by its Latin name, Salix babylonica, grows rapidly, but has a short lifespan, between 40 and 75 years.
